OPM provided a team to design implementation options for a three-year regional migration programme in Central Asia. Through this programme, DFID aims to help strengthen the capabilities of the governments of migrant sending and hosting countries on policy matters relating to migration. The purpose of the programme is to enhance the impact of migration on economic growth and sustainable development in Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
The programme is intended to:
• Support and strengthen national and regional dialogue on migration policy and programming in the target countries;
• Improve legislation with respect to the welfare of migrant workers in host countries; and
• Improve support systems for returning migrants in sending countries. The design process has been divided into two phases: (i) an interim scoping phase; and (ii) a final design phase where the full programme will be designed together with the implementing multilateral.
