Ian MacAuslan leads the OPM global education portfolio, based in New Delhi and working across Central Asia, South Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
In India, Ian currently leads an evaluation of a five year initiative to improve child protection outcomes in two states and supports a global organisation to develop their strategy on child labour. In Nigeria, he directs research and evaluation on education systems, teachers, and education markets, and helps DFID and Government sharpen their strategies for improving learning outcomes.
A key focus of Ian’s work is contributing to global and national policy debates through policy briefings, academic publications, and conferences. His research highlights challenges that migrants face accessing social services; the politics of policy change; impacts of cash transfers on non-material well-being; child labour; the importance of systems to improve teacher quality; and the need to regulate the private sector to improve education.
He is a founding trustee of the Mark Evison Foundation, a charity that helps young people in the UK. He is passionate about supporting governments and their partners to improve education systems and learning for all.
