Biography

Aly Visram is a senior consultant within the Health Portfolio of OPM’s Social Policy Programme. He has an MSc Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and focussed his studies in the fields of epidemiology and evaluation. Much of Aly’s recent work has focussed on impact and operational evaluations of cash transfer, food stamp and nutrition programmes. He has led and worked on quasi-experimental impact evaluations in Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mongolia and Nigeria.

Aly also works on the design and implementation of M&E frameworks. In Mongolia, he is providing direct M&E and operational support to the Food Stamps Programme and in Pakistan he had developed a performance-based monitoring framework for a large maternal and child health intervention in Sindh.

He recently conducted a review of demand-side interventions (which include, but are not limited to cash transfers) to inform the design of a DFID funded cash transfer programme for pregnant women in Zambia and recently published comparative analysis of payment systems often employed in cash transfer interventions.
