Biography
Deepayan Basu Ray is an Assistant Consultant in OPM’s Economic Policy Programme. He has a broad range of experiences in development research, policy analysis and aid evaluation. His professional experiences focus on regional, national, and local policy contexts – with emphasis on South Asia. He has experience in national and regional environmental and human rights policy analysis. Deepayan is a specialist in human security, human rights, governance and democracy issues. His recent relevant experiences include:
- Conducting a comprehensive survey of major donors and funders of development research (including Sida, Danida, Norad, and DGIS). The report produced from this survey was the key discussion document at a workshop hosted by the IDS on “Maximising the impact of development research – How can funders encourage more effective research communication”.
- Preparing a detailed evaluation and thematic review on Human Security for the UNDP’s Human Development Report Office. The report reviewed precedents leading up to the establishment of the human security framework, and then synthesised the experience of National Human Development Reports that have used Human Security as the cornerstone of analysis by assessing the strengths and impacts of the reports in the context of policy initiatives.
