Biography

Felix Schmieding is an economist and statistician with experience in quantitative survey design, implementation and analysis. His two main areas of specialisation are capacity building in national statistical systems and rigorous quantitative impact evaluations. He is currently training staff at the National Institute of Statistics in Rwanda in survey data analysis and leading teams of analysts producing the final reports for the Zambian Living Conditions Monitoring Survey 2010, as well as working on the Rwandan Third Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey. He is also designing an impact evaluation survey for a food stamps programme in Mongolia. Recent experience has included managing large quantitative panel surveys in complex environments, such as a randomised impact evaluation on primary school policies in rural Uganda and one on microinsurance in Kenya. Felix has also evaluated the Hunger Safety Net Programme in Kenya and a child grant programme in Lesotho. He has conducted training courses on computer-assisted survey methods for survey managers at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Ethiopia. Prior to joining OPM, Felix worked as a Survey Manager at the Centre for the Study of African Economies at the University of Oxford.
