Biography
Ian MacAuslan leads the Education, Early Childhood Development and Labour portfolio and is a senior consultant in OPM’s Poverty and Social Protection portfolio. Ian specialises in qualitative research on food security, poverty and social protection programmes. He is interested in both emergency food relief and long-term social protection programming. He is currently managing the monitoring and evaluation of the Government of Mongolia’s food stamps programme, including a review of the national food security and nutritional surveillance and response system. Ian is also leading a project assessing Oxfam’s response to urban emergencies and food insecurity, and the qualitative component of research for the World Bank/BOTA on social protection programmes in Kazakhstan. He has previously led qualitative research on the impact of migration on children in Tajikistan, and several other qualitative research projects and evaluations in India, Kenya, Lesotho, Senegal, Yemen and Zimbabwe. He has published and presented several papers on social protection and food security, most recently on the impact of cash transfers on social relations.
