Biography
Dr Marcela Tarazona, Senior Consultant at OPM, is an economist with more than 12 years of experience studying the economic and social impacts of environmental risks on sustainable development and on the poor. At OPM she leads the work on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. Her recent work focuses on issues related to climate change, disaster risk management, M&E, risk and savings behaviours of individuals and households, gender and migration. Prior to her appointment at OPM she worked for the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank where she provided analytical and technical support regarding climate change and disaster management policies to developing countries, with a particularly emphasis on financial strategies. Marcela is currently working as a chapter scientist for the Fifth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Assessment Report, providing inputs on the impacts of climate change on human security. She recently co-authored two background reports for ISDR’s Global Assessment Report 2011 on disasters and development and one for the World Development Report 2012 on Gender. Marcela holds a PhD in Economics and a MA in Environmental Economics from Toulouse School of Economics and is a Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia.
