Mateo G. Cabello

Biography

Mateo Cabello recently joined OPM as a Consultant in the Financial Sector Policy team. He has a strong background in microfinance activity and financial reforms and more than 10 years of professional experience in the development sector, mainly in Latin America. Mateo worked for three years in Bolivia directing the Spanish-Bolivian Microfinance Programme, and has recently concluded research analysing the policy process leading to the regulation of microfinance activity in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. His work as a Project Director of the Spanish Commission for Refugees also took him to Kosovo, Mozambique, Lebanon and Gabon. Mateo has also served as a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ibero American General Secretariat and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath, and an MSc in Agricultural Development and Rural Finance from the University of Bradford.
