Biography
Matthew Powell is a senior economic statistician and national accountant with over 15 years' high-level experience in developed and developing countries' national statistical agencies and international organisations. As an economic statistician, he has worked for many years on the re-engineering and reform of national accounts and consumer price systems in both the UK and developing countries. He has worked extensively with economists wishing to use the outputs from economic statistics systems for modelling and analysis and with survey statisticians to improve the inputs. Matthew has served on several European taskforces dealing with the definition and measurement of quality in statistical systems. Since joining OPM, he has worked on the design and management of programmes to improve national statistical systems and improve the capacity to monitor development goals. During his career, he has worked as Head of Economic Statistics in a developing country's statistical office.
