Matthew Powell

Biography

Matthew Powell is a senior economic statistician and national accountant with over 15 years of high level experience in developed and developing country national statistical agencies and international organisations. As an economic statistician he has worked for many years on the reengineering and reform of National Accounts and Consumer Prices systems in both the UK and developing countries. He has worked extensively with economists wishing to use the outputs from economic statistics systems for modelling and analysis and with survey statisticians to improve the inputs. Matthew has served on several European taskforces dealing with the definition and measurement of quality in statistical systems. Since joining OPM he has worked on the design and management of programmes to improve national statistical systems and improve the capacity to monitor development goals. During his career he has worked as head of Economic Statistics in a developing country statistical office.
