Robert Stone

Biography

Robert Stone has over 30 years of international experience, mainly focused on the development of the financial sector.  Robert has wide experience across the dange of financial sector development issues, including financial market development and regulation (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, China, Jordan, Montenegro, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Vietnam), access to finance by households and MSMEs (Armenia, Kenya, Lithuania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia), restructuring of the banking system (Albania, Slovakia, the Solomon Islands, Somalia, Tanzania, Vietnam, Zambia), bank privatisation (Lithuania, Slovakia, Zambia), and international debt restructuring (Paris and London Clubs).

 Robert's recent work has focused on the structure of markets within the financial sector, and their impact on stability, growth and, especially, poverty reduction.  He has developed methodologies for assessing and improving the reach and functioning of wholesale financial markets to ensure that financial intermediation links the effective mobilisation if international and domestic savings with the provision of appropriate capital for the enterprise sector, from MSMEs to large utilities.
