Project Information

OPM undertook a study of the opportunities for fostering pro-poor growth in Kenya. The study involved the following elements: (i) a review of the implications of international experience and recent empirical and theoretical literature on the relationship between growth, poverty and inequality; (ii) an assessment of Kenya’s experience to date in achieving growth and poverty reduction; (iii) an examination of the main macroeconomic and sectoral policy choices facing Kenya in the light of poverty reduction objectives; and (iv) development of proposals for how the PRSP process needed to be taken forward to provide the basis for an adequate pro-poor growth strategy. The study was presented and discussed at a workshop organised by KIPPRA in Nairobi in May 2001.
