OPM undertook a review of the prospects for, and potential drivers of, democratic political change and economic reform in the Mashreq region and the potential role of the European Union, through the European Neighbourhood Policy, in promoting reforms. Preliminary findings were presented at a workshop in Brussels for the European Commission. This was followed by case studies focusing on the reform of trade-related services and judicial reform and the rule of law, focusing on Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.
