Capital Market Development
In many developing and transition countries, financial sector reform in the early stages may focus on the commercial banking sector. But it rapidly becomes apparent in most cases that the banking sector’s contribution to economic growth is inextricably linked to the development of related parts of the market for capital, especially the markets for government debt and corporate securities. OPM staff have worked in many countries to assist in the design and management of strategies for strengthening and deepening capital markets, including both debt and equity markets.
OPM projects in this area range from country debt strategies through projects aimed at deepening and strengthening the equity market to the analysis of specific issues such as interest rate spreads.
