Project Information

OPM is advising the Government of Kenya on the difficult task of planning the future of the country’s main Development Finance Institutions (DFIs). The project involves (i) the analysis of the present financial situation of five DFIs; (ii) a diagnosis of the main reasons for their declining performance and role in the past 15-20 years; (iii) an analysis of the success factors in comparable DFIs in other parts of Africa and the world more generally; (iv) the preparation of a Comprehensive Strategy for the reform of the DFI sector in Kenya; and (v) input in to a draft Cabinet Paper to give effect to the reforms. This work, financed by the World Bank, is being undertaken in collaboration with the National Treasury in Kenya.  Parallel work on a strategy for the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank has also been initiated within this project.
