Agriculture and Rural Development
For many developing countries the rural sector remains critical for economic growth and poverty reduction. OPM has well-established expertise in agriculture and rural development policy arising from many years’ involvement in advisory work and research in this area. We have worked closely with government, civil society, and the private sector on agriculture and rural development and have undertaken numerous assignments on these issues throughout the world over the last two decades.
OPM’s work concentrates upon agricultural policy reform, public expenditure analysis, and organisational change based upon the role of the state as a ‘facilitator’ of private sector activity, and in the financing and delivery of public goods to agriculture and the rural sector. The aim is to promote policies and actions that support agriculture and rural development, and that lead to sustained improvements in the livelihoods of the rural poor, while also encouraging appropriate management of the environment and natural resources.
Our work covers three broad areas:
- policy and institutional reform
- agriculture public expenditure analysis
- support to donor strategies for agriculture
