Social Protection

Senior Consultant

Ludovico Carraro »

Social protection can be defined more or less broadly and government and donors have different understanding of what is included in social protection: from social safety nets and food aid to labour market policies, social assistance and social insurance.There is a renewed interest in social protection that is partly associated to its widening concept.

OPM has been heavily involved in aspects of social protection since its beginning and is following the different areas of its evolution: in particular social assistance provided through cash benefits and services and aspects of social insurance, particularly health insurance (see Health portfolio).

Areas of expertise include:

  • Scoping options for social protection;
  • Assessment of targeting efficiency;
  • Social assistance reform.
