Project Information

OPM provided a team to analyze migration policy and trends in Central Asia and to propose a number of options for future work on migration for a three-year regional migration programme in Central Asia. Following project design and approval, OPM facilitated the planning of activities by implementing organizations IOM and UNIFEM. The Central Asia Regional Migration Programme (CARMP) is a complex multi-country, multi-agency project, which aims to reduce poverty in Central Asia through improved livelihoods of migrant men, women, and their families. Through this programme, DFID aims to help strengthen the capabilities of the governments of migrant sending countries (Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic) and migrant receiving countries (Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation) on policy matters relating to migration.

The programme will:

  • Support and strengthen national and regional dialogue on migration policy and programming in the target countries;
  • Improve legislation with respect to the welfare of migrant workers in host countries; and
  • Improve support systems for migrant families and returning migrants in sending countries.
