Project Information

OPM supported the design and analysis of four rounds of a national household survey that successfully tracked the impact of national reforms in health care, family planning, education and water supply & sanitation. Household consumption and income data was also collected and used to assess trends in income poverty over the 1990s.From the survey analysis a number of influential reports were produced influencing the poverty debate, and policies in the sectors of education, health and sanitation.Counterparts were trained to undertake intermediate level survey analysis (simple regression analysis and tabulations), poverty analysis and reporting to policy makers.

The above report offers a contribution to the current poverty debate in Pakistan and to the Poverty Reduction Strategy process, providing three main outputs: the production of new poverty estimates using the most recent nationally representative household survey; an analysis of the main policy-relevant socio-economic groups: how and why they are affected by poverty; and an analysis of the causes of poverty and its determinants with consequent policy implications.
