OPM produced a ‘How to’ Guidance note, providing support for DFID staff on how to conduct gender analyses of household survey data. The objective of the ‘How to’ Note was to offer advice on:

1.    Undertaking better gender analysis on existing survey formats; and
2.    Designing surveys that enable improved gender analysis

The ‘How-to’ Note specifically looked at:

•    the way in which data is collected and how this impacts on results,
•    how to analysis data from a gender perspective,
•    framing questions for better quality gender analysis,
•    including purpose designed gender modules, and finally
•    the importance of combining quantitative and qualitative research to gain insight into the sociological context for gender analysis and to gain a greater understanding of the dynamics of gender relationships within the household.
