Significant increase in immunisation coverage in Nigeria, and other news (11 June 2019)

Immunisation coverage in Jigawa, Nigeria and an India-Africa partnership Climate Change and Food Security conference

Each week we highlight some of the international development stories from across the globe that have caught our attention.

  • The Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), an apex think tank focused on policy issues surrounding the agricultural and food industries, has organised its first round-table conference on ‘Climate Change and Food Security in Africa’ in collaboration with The World Bank and DFID, as part of the India-Africa agricultural partnership.   • Immunisation coverage in Jigawa State, Nigeria has increased significantly from 2% in 2016/17 to 92% according to a recent internal survey assessing the implementation of immunisation strategies. One of Nigeria’s poorest states, Jigawa has previously struggled to achieve development goals. Read more in Elombah News.
  • As part of the Pakistan Government’s commitment to address nutrition related challenges, plans to establish a Centre of Excellence on Nutrition for a National Action Plan on Nutrition have been announced. The first National Nutrition Survey report for Pakistan since 2011 has recently been launched. Read more in Business Recorder (Pakistan).
  • The Nigerian Government have announced that the findings of the second National Household Survey on Quality and Integrity of Public Services in Nigeria will be published in September. The survey aims to determine the forms and prevalence of corruption affecting the daily lives of Nigerian citizens. Read more in Xinhau Net.
