Reenergising the race to 2030: Data and evidence to accelerate progress towards SDG1

📍Location: Arusha, Tanzania

🗓️Date: 11-13 June 2025

With five years remaining of Agenda 2030, the world is off-track to meet Sustainable Development Goal 1 – to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.

The global landscape for economic growth and poverty reduction has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years. The ‘polycrisis’ facing LMICs – demographic shifts, climate change, epidemiological shocks, rapid technological advances, disruptions to global trade and investment, heightened debt burdens and the rising cost of credit, and broader socio-political changes – has already had profound consequences on economic growth, social transformation and poverty reduction.

Many LMIC governments are reassessing their development strategies and forecasts, with significant implications for poverty reduction efforts. This places a premium on robust and insightful poverty research.

The conference provides a timely and critical platform to convene national leaders and their strategy teams with leading international and national researchers, offering an opportunity to reinvigorate momentum around SDG 1 over the next five years.
