Day one of the AAC, a session I am particularly looking forward to is Panel 1d – The critical intersections of social protection systems and climate change. I'm excited for this panel as it addresses the crucial link between social protection systems and climate change, an increasingly urgent issue, especially in vulnerable rural agrarian economies. It’s encouraging to see experts like Dr. Stephen Kidd and Dr. Melanie Pill sharing their insights and exploring innovative solutions for making social protection more resilient and responsive. I’m eager to learn about the opportunities for strengthening safety nets during times of crisis and how they can effectively adapt to the changing climate landscape. Overall, it promises valuable insights on protecting livelihoods and enhancing community resilience in the face of climate change.

Bethany Flanagan:
I’m excited about Panel 6a – Forecasters, unite! as it explores the future of the development sector. I’m eager to hear the insights of Sara Webb and Bridi Rice, both of whom have previously collaborated with OPM and bring invaluable expertise to the discussion alongside the other distinguished panellists. This forward-looking conversation promises to offer fresh perspectives on how we, as a sector, can anticipate emerging challenges and shape our future capability needs.

Dee Hartvigsen:
So many great panels and presentations to choose from on the AAC 2024 program this year. I’m particularly looking forward to Panel 2a on Wednesday – Australia’s approach to locally led development: policy drivers and emerging good practice. A great opportunity to hear from Ayesha Lutschini, Pranil Singh, Bishnu Adhikara and Kirsten Hawke about their experiences supporting locally led development - the challenges faced and emerging good practice.
