Health financing

Our work supports governments in low- and middle-income countries to strengthen domestic health financing, improve efficiency of resource use, and expand effective service coverage and financial protection - enabling progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

We support Universal Health Coverage agendas and help national governments in low- and middle-income countries to strengthen sustainable health financing and efficiency of health care systems.  

Specific areas of expertise include:

  • development and institutionalisation of Health Financing reforms, policies, and strategies;
  • financial protection mechanisms, including Social Health Insurance schemes.
  • fiscal space analyses;
  • resource allocation methodologies;
  • costing of health services;
  • economic evaluation, including cost effectiveness, cost benefit and cost utility analyses;
  • public financial management;
  • strategic purchasing, including tax reform, results based financing mechanisms, purchasing incentives and associated health financing governance; and
  • capacity development in health financing and service purchasing.
