Evaluation of the Prime Minister's Lady Health Worker Programme

This independent evaluation of the Lady Health Workers in Pakistan was commissioned in 1999 and completed in 2002 by Oxford Policy Management- UK. At the time of the evaluation there were nearly 40,000 female community health workers providing basic primary health care services to around 35,000,000 predominantly poor people. The evaluation focused on the success of programme implementation based on original design, the extent of service delivery and the impact on health outcomes. Actual and desirable units costs were assessed to aid in future budgeting of the programme.
There are eleven evaluation reports available. The Final Report summarises the evaluation findings. Reports 2-8 cover the results of the quantitative surveys, both at the national and regional level; and the financial and economic analysis. In addition there are three 'white cover' reports covering the training programme, the qualitative study of three districts, and the sampling design for the quantitative surveys.
