From data on including women financially in Pakistan to ensuring girls can stay in education across the Commonwealth

Every Tuesday we highlight some of the international development stories from across the globe that have caught our attention.

  • A conference in Pakistan has looked at data on the financial inclusion of women in Pakistan, and explored ways to increase this inclusion. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation shared its Global Strategy on Gender and Financial Inclusion, and various financial institutions and not-for-profits contributed.   • The UK has pledged £212 million to help ensure girls in Commonwealth countries spend at least 12 years in education. Read more in Ghana Web.
  • The Federal Cabinet in Pakistan have approved the Budget Strategy Paper for the next fiscal year. This includes increases in expenditures for defence, debt serving, and the fiscal deficit, in the absence of foreign aid for budgetary support. Read more in Dawn (Pakistan).
